Bitchfit from Oakland, CA

The Bitchstory (Herstory of BitchFit) BitchFit: The state of unapologetically being bitch Ailish, the singer and bassist, thought of the name BitchFit one night and knew that would be the name of her future Riot Grrrl band. She had been listening to classic Riot Grrrl, an eclectic blend of punk rock and alternative music and finding the voice she’d been looking for. A year later she met Talulah, who quickly became her best friend as they found so much in common with music, identity, and world view. Talulah had already played drums in a Riot Grrrl band, so Ailish set her sights on the band she’d been imagining. They started talking about their ideas and knew they could create something really powerful. Talulah brought Lyla, the amazing guitar player that was in her other band to meet up with Ailish and see what they would come up with together. From their first practice in November of 2024 it was magic, and BitchFit was born. They played their first show January of 2025 at The Baltic Kiss in Richmond. They started with a bang bringing in a huge crowd to that show and every show since. Young people who want and need to hear music that swells with the rage that they feel about misogyny, rape culture, girls being silenced and pressured to look and act a certain way, racism, homophobia, transphobia and a world that condones subjugation of everyone that is not white men.

Ailish holds the stage with invitation and anger, keeping the bass steady while singing songs like Girl Soldiers, Barbie’s world, and Stupid White Boy- bringing back the call for “girls to the front.” Talulah rages on the drums with classic punk beats made new by her own characteristic spark. Meanwhile Lyla grinds her guitar riffs over the top with pure punk grit. Bitchfit embraces the old Riot Grrrl hardcore while having their fingers steady on the pulse of NOW- inviting everyone who wants to Scream with them.
