Build A Rocket is the creation of multi-instrumentalist Jen Carlson, brought to life with the collaboration of guitarist Jason Taylor and bassist/guitarist/vocalist Johnny Kirk (Jen’s brother). Jen and Jason met serendipitously in a ghost town bar in the Delta, where their shared musical tastes forged an instant friendship.

With a decade’s worth of songs in the making, Build A Rocket is a fusion of math rock precision and punk urgency, laced with the dusty undertones of Americana and country. Think haunted surf breaks colliding with the gallop of a spaghetti western, the mystique of a 60’s UFO convention, and the grit of an outlaw biker gang. Their songs are rooted in lived experience—adventure, heartache, solitude, and, at times, murder. Gritty and cinematic, the lyrics summon ghosts both past and present, creating a soundscape tailor-made for festival stages: raw, haunting, and unforgettable.
